The Gallery: A celebration

We didn't really live the expat life in Bosnia, mainly because there weren't very many expats where we lived. But we did become very good friends with an American couple who made all the difference for us and our time in Bosnia. They dog sat. They baby sat. They came out to play with us and our children voluntarily and without complaining. They had receptive ears for the inevitable moans and whinges that we had about living in Bosnia, but also got out there and enjoyed the country with us. They even came over in the evenings and played card games and scrabble with us, inevitably a competitive affair involving a lot of appalling behaviour from two Brits who have yet to learn not to rub the losers face in it (our children have no hope).

We are all back in our respective countries now. But on their way back to the States they came and stayed with us in England for a bit. This picture was taken then and I love it. I love it for the colours and the symmetry but most of all I love it because it is such a celebration of our friendship.

Perhaps, more crucially, it is also a celebration of the moment we decided to have some Thai food for the first time in two years (Bosnians didn't do Thai food. Or Chinese or Indian come to that). Believe me when I say that is definitely a moment to celebrate.
