A few days ago my boyfriend found another Alaskan themed film for us to watch as we've become rather interested in the state since watching Northern Exposure. Oh, and we like pretending it is cold and wintery when in actual fact it's uncomfortably warm outside. Hehe.
This new-to-us film is a documentary about Dick Proenekke (1916-2003), a regular man who, after retiring in 1967, decided to move into the Alaskan wilderness and wound up staying there well into his 80s. He built his own tools, his own cabin and spent his days chopping wood, exploring, writing in his journal and recording the wildlife. Watching footage he shot of an ermine with it's white winter coat eating some left-over meat has cemented them a top place as one of my favourite animals.
I especially enjoyed the narration in these documentaries. It is really simple in style as though reading a diary and is also calming, like David Attenborough's voice, which I find is great to listen to when you can't get to sleep.
There are a few different titles you can watch, we just finished watching 3 out of four. You can find a list of them here if you are interested.
